Megibung tradition and Ngejot in Bali

Megibung tradition and Ngejot
Two traditions in Bali - Indonesia, which implies high filosophy in building inter-religious harmony is "megibung tradition" and "ngejot tradition." Balinese people are the majority Hindus, therefore, also known as Bali island city of thousand temples. Apart from the Hindu community of about 20% of the public who come from outside Bali, settled there, and about 20% embraced various religions, like Islam, Christianity, Catholicism and Buddhism.

Megibung
According to some historical records, was introduced by megibung tradition of Karangasem, I Gusti Agung Ketut Karangasem Anglurah starting from the year 1614 Çaka (or 1692 AD). At that time, Karangasem, in his expedition beat Kings in the land of Lombok (Sasak King). When the rest of the war, the king urged all soldiers to eat together in a circular position later known by the name Megibung. In fact, the king himself is said to come eat with his soldiers.

Megibung contain values and specific rules. In megibung, rice in large quantities placed on a platter (place mat made of clay or wood) that has been coated Tamas (woven palm leaves). But now the event megibung rarely use the platter, was replaced with trays or other containers lined with banana leaves or rice paper. Mound of rice in a large portion placed on a tray and side dishes placed in a special container. People who eat sitting cross-legged on a regular basis and form a circle.

Food menu consists of megibung tradition is pork, the sequence (pork sausage), satay kablet (fat), awl satay (meat content), Nyuh sate (satay coconut), tamarind sate (satay and fat content), and red lawar white, starfruit leaf vegetables, pademara, and vegetable urap.

What about the Muslims about the megibung menu? Must be adjusted for example megibung menu of pork meat replaced with chicken. Megibung in the Muslim community is usually associated with weddings, circumcision feast, Eid, Mawlood Prophet and other Islamic occasions.Even now Megibung done regardless of tribe or religion, and megibung have meaning is to strengthen inter-religious brotherhood.

Ngejot
In Bali, ngejot means giving something (usually food) to someone else when we have a celebration or during certain holidays (other religions). Probably about the same as in other areas throughout Indonesia, in Bali there is also a tradition of this ngejot. Actually, the general nature of the people of Indonesia especially in Bali is helping and sharing, and this tradition is one of ngejot evidence. Ngejot tradition in Bali we can be divided into two, namely ngejot when ngejot holidays and when someone has a celebration or perform a ceremonial / religious beliefs.

Ngejot activity was carried out by Hindu and Muslim people. Like Walisongo in preaching in Java expand, they seek to modify the habits of the natives. Thus, Muslims in Bali was to modify the habits of the Hindu when welcoming Galungan and Kuningan holidays. Before Galungan, a feast which always falls on a day 210 days per calendar Wednesday Balinese procession was preceded by a string. The first is pengejukan or catching a pig. Next is PENAMPAHAN (pork cuts). Cut the pork is done together, either between neighbors or between collateral blood relatives. Only after it was implemented "Pengejotan". Having learned that Muslims should not eat pork so that dijot bianya cakes and fruits. Even if there is rice, but the side-dishes of chicken meat.

Ngejot when holidays such as Galungan, Brass and more usually more voluntary and adjust the situation and conditions. This means that what we have is what we give to others is usually neighbors and friends and relatives. Maybe because at that time almost everyone also celebrate the feast day, so exactly like each other to exchange gifts because usually ngejot.
In addition, in specific areas in which multiple, non-Hindu religious community also inherited jotan (goods / food ngejot given time), and vice versa when other peoples holidays like Eid, Christmas, Vesak and other Hindus also feel . How wonderful difference when addressed with discretion?

BENTHIK is Traditional Game

We call “BENTHIK”. Writing have to use "TH" because if not, read a different pronunciation and meaning could have different. This game is so dominant on the outskirts of Semarang, and Solo Jogjajarta. Usually performed by elementary school age children after school at the field near the house, which was still enough time outside to play.

“BENTHIK” quite easy to do. Prepare a minimum of three bamboo that has been diraut. Two measuring around 50 cm, is only as bait's size 20 cm. These games can be performed at least two, but can also dilakuklan more than than.

Then sleep 5 cm soil depth. made rather wide for melatakkan bait. Place the bait in the middle ground that we already sleep. Then lentikkan with a longer bamboo. Our opponents we have brushed it off with a bamboo which he held as well.

There the term 'Catfish shaft' of the game. That is, the bait is propped with stone ketch, then disentil with bamboo top of my lungs. If you can not bounce away and caught our opponents, it could be we're the winner of this game.

December 2007 ago, I took leave and meet my little friends. Average body was "swollen" all [hahaha, distended stomach problem was an adult male was]. Field near the house, partially finished building. But there is a span that we can still wear. I idly ngajakin comrades.

Yup, there we go back to being "a child" in the field where we play first. Do not ask me the stamina and movement, are all struggling and slower course. But it's not the point, we enjoy the atmosphere of laughter and togetherness that we leave it long.

“BENTHIK”, it could bring me and my comrades in the collective memory of honest. Though some friends had moved house, moved the task, and some even died, but the atmosphere of childhood that mash recorded clearly. To borrow the title song of The Upstairs, 'unrecorded [Never Die]'

Hypocrisy of the people of this village had stirred the conscience little boy, who later named the Baru Klinthing known. In a lively party, the boy managed to menyellinap entry. Surefire But what, he too must be willing at forcibly expelled because of getting caught.

As he was in drag, he ordered that they would willingly pay attention to those who can not, because they are human too. Just like them. In the treat so he was not so bothered. But the anger began to peak, when dozens of people began to pout while spit on him. "Hobgoblin basic, ugly child," as he curses them.

Nyi Roro Kidul

The story of Nyi Roro Kidul is well known. Not only among residents of Yogyakarta and Surakarta, but on the whole island of Java. Whether in Central Java, West Java and East Java. In the area of Yogyakarta, the story of Nyi Roro Kidul is always connected with the story of the King of Mataram. While in Malang, East Java, especially in South Beach Ngliyep precisely, Nyi Roro Kidul was called with the title Queen of South. On the Beach Ngliyep Labuhan ceremony is held also offering the worshipers Nyi Roro Kidul belief that wealth for the help they get is Nyi Roro Kidul and his men.

That said, Nyi Roro Kidul is a beautiful queen like an angel, her beauty never faded at all times. At the bottom of the South Sea, namely the oceans used to be called the Indian Ocean - the southern island of Java, he was enthroned in a kingdom of spirits a very large and beautiful.

Who's the Queen of South? It seems, according to who owns the story, at first was a woman, who berparas elegant, Kadita name. Because of her beauty, he is often called the Goddess Srengenge, which meant the Sun Jelita. Kadita is the daughter of King Munding Wangi. Although Kadita exquisite face, the King still grieving because they do not have a crown that can be prepared. Only after the king marry Mutiara Dewi was born a boy. However, so get more attention, Mutiara Dewi started asking the demands, among other things, ensuring he will replace his throne and Goddess Kadita be expelled from the palace. Released the first request, but to expel Kadita, King Munding Wangi not willing.

"It's outrageous," his saying. "I'm not willing to grant your petition which was infamous," he continued. Hearing this, Mutiara Dewi even smiled so sweetly, so that the king's anger, slowly disappeared. However, in the heart's second wife's vengeance.

Next day, early in the morning, care of Pearls pengutus host summoned a sorcerer, the playful name. Commanded him, so the goddess of witchcraft Kadita shipped.

"Make her mangy and scabby," she ordered. "If successful, the great prize for you!" He continued. The ignorant menyanggupinya. At night, when Kadita're asleep, go into his room breeze. The wind was foul, like the smell of carrion. When Kadita awoke, she screamed. His whole body is full of mange, ulcers and very bad smell.

When the king heard this news Munding Fragrant in the morning, much distressed heart. In my heart to know that the illness suffered by Kadita not unusual, but witchcraft. King also had expected, so maybe the Pearl is planned. It's just. How to prove it. In the state of dizziness, the King must immediately decide.

Going to do with Kadita. At the urging of the governor, which was originally a very beautiful daughter that should be thrown away so as not to make disgrace.

So the Kadita by himself, like a beggar who had been expelled from the homes of the rich. His heart was shattered; tears tears. But he still believes, that the Creator would not allow His creation persecuted fellow creatures. Mix the arms would be arriving. For that, like her grandmother had taught the deceased, that he should not be vengeful and hate those who hate it.

Day and night he walked, and been seven days and seven nights of time taken, until finally he reached the coast of the South Sea. Then stood looking at the extent of the sea, he was like hearing a voice calling him to plunge into the sea. When he followed the call, then touched the water, his body was recovered. Be it a beautiful woman as in the past. Not only that, he soon mastered all the oceans and their content and establish the kingdom of the magnificent, robust, beautiful and dignified. He is now known as the Queen of the South Sea.
The story of Nyi Roro Kidul is a lot of their version. There are versions of West Java, East Java and Yogyakarta.

Nyi Roro Kidul is said that it was none other than a genie who has great power. Up to now there are still people looking for property with a shortcut that is by worshiping Nyi Roro Kidul. They can be abundant wealth, but had to sacrifice family and will even die before their time, their soul will be slave to the triumph of the South Sea Palace.

This story can be classified as a myth, because mengaruhnya very profound, and far for a natural mendasr traditional thoughts in Yogyakarta.
